Why You Should Hire a Professional for Emergency Garage Door Repair

While homeowners can perform quick fixes like track lubrication, it’s best to call a professional for garage door repair, given the following factors:

Safety: Garage doors are heavy and under a lot of tension from springs and cables. This makes them especially dangerous when mishandled. A repair professional will have the relevant experience and knowledge of safety precautions.

Expertise: These door systems have more parts than meet the eye, and not all garage doors require the same approach. An expert can identify the state of your garage and what methods and tools best suit its needs.

Appropriate tools: A garage door repair company will have the proper tools, saving you from spending time and money acquiring them.

Warranties: These protections give you peace of mind and confidence in the result of your repair.

Time savings: Identifying and repairing a garage door is time-consuming for most homeowners. A professional can often complete the job quickly, letting you focus on other things.

Cost-effectiveness: DIY repairs initially seem like a smart cost-saving solution. However, they can quickly lead to higher prices than hiring a professional who can get it done right the first time and ensure longer-lasting results.

Repair Your Door With Houston’s Best Garage Door Professionals

Finding the right garage door repair service should not be an added stress in an emergency. These reputable businesses are sound choices for people looking for good customer service, quality products and materials, and comprehensive repairs. Evaluate your choices and contact a top emergency garage door service provider.

What makes neighborhoods so compelling isn’t just the architecture—it’s the lifestyle and sense of continuity. These are neighborhoods where families put down roots, and increasingly, they’re choosing to invest in their homes in ways that reflect how they truly live.

A Design Philosophy Rooted in Real Life

Julie Leach

For today’s homeowners, remodeling has evolved far beyond surface-level updates. It’s about creating environments that feel intuitive, refined, and deeply personal. Spaces are being reshaped to improve flow, maximize natural light, and support the rhythms of daily life—without sacrificing warmth or character.

At the center of many of these transformations is Julie Leach, a lifelong Memorial resident and owner of Homemakers Remodeling. Her design style is best described as intentional, collaborative, and quietly sophisticated. Rather than imposing a signature “look,” Julie approaches each project as a study in how a family lives—translating that into spaces that feel effortless, balanced, and enduring.

Her early experience in a woman-led firm—where leadership across design, sales, and execution was entirely female—instilled a process-driven, detail-oriented mindset. Today, that translates into a calm, highly organized approach that brings clarity to what can often feel overwhelming. She is known for layering function with subtle luxury—prioritizing livability first, then elevating it through proportion, materiality, and thoughtful detail.

:Mr Lin a Wilchester resident, described a process where

“Julie brings a calm, cool, and collected presence to home renovation and construction projects, which often involve a lot of uncertainty and emotion. She was a valuable resource throughout the process and someone I could comfortably bounce ideas off of.

Preserving Character, Introducing Modern Ease

Memorial homes are often rooted in traditional architecture, and homeowners here tend to value that sense of permanence. Julie’s design approach leans into this—preserving the architectural integrity of a home while quietly modernizing its functionality.

Rather than chasing trends, her work emphasizes timelessness: clean transitions between spaces, restrained palettes, and materials that age gracefully. Kitchens open without feeling overexposed. Storage is integrated seamlessly. Primary suites become retreats without feeling disconnected from the home’s original scale.

A home on Queensbury Lane illustrates this philosophy in motion. Over time—and across multiple owners—it has evolved through a series of thoughtful interventions rather than a single overhaul.

It began with a full interior remodel, preparing the home for its next chapter. When a young couple purchased the property, they layered in their own priorities, starting with a generous primary closet that combined utility with a sense of everyday luxury.

As their needs expanded, so did the home. Julie designed a private garage apartment for visiting grandparents from Dallas—complete with a full kitchen, living area, bedroom, and bath. The space feels independent yet connected, designed with both comfort and dignity in mind.

Most recently, the home extended outward with a covered patio—blurring the line between indoors and out. The transition is seamless, reinforcing Julie’s belief that good design isn’t just seen—it’s felt in how naturally a space is used.

This kind of phased transformation is increasingly common in Memorial. Families aren’t leaving—they’re refining. Homes grow alongside them.

In another Wilchester West project, a second-story addition of over 1,650 square feet redefined the home’s livability, introducing a private owners’ retreat, office, fitness room, dry sauna, and expansive playroom—all integrated in a way that feels cohesive rather than additive.

Much of this work spreads organically—through referrals, repeat clients, and even from one homeowner to the next as properties change hands.

I’m always mindful of who I recommend to my clients. Julie Leach and her team consistently deliver exceptional results, and I have complete confidence in referring her. She takes great care of my clients, and I know they’re in good hands.”

explained client, realtor and builder Jennifer Larson of JL Fine Homes

Outdoor Living, Thoughtfully Extended

In Houston, outdoor living isn’t an afterthought—it’s essential. Julie approaches exterior spaces with the same level of intention as interiors, designing patios and outdoor environments that feel like a natural continuation of the home.

Covered structures, integrated lighting, outdoor kitchens, and layered seating areas are composed to create comfort and usability year-round. These aren’t just entertaining spaces—they’re where families unwind at the end of the day.

“Our patio has completely changed how we use our home,” one homeowner shared. “We’re out here almost every evening now—it feels like an extension of our living room.”

Staying Rooted, Living Well

At its core, Julie’s work reflects a broader shift in how families think about home. It’s not about starting over—it’s about evolving thoughtfully, making strategic, well-designed changes that support life as it unfolds.

“Many of our clients come to us with ideas, but they’re not always sure how to bring them to life,” Julie explains. “Our role is to help them think through how their home will function, how it will feel, and how it will support their family over time.”

It’s a philosophy grounded in intention—where design is not just about how a home looks, but how it lives.

For good reason, Large homes are popular in Houston. Expansive acreage from which to choose makes creative design and amenities easy. Large homes cost more and take longer to build, but come with grand opportunities. Consider engaging your interior designer and architect in all phases in an effort to utilize sustainable products such as solar energy, windows, etc. Many design plans include a second kitchen, a movie theater, indoor bowling alley, or a wine room. Outside, you may choose a tennis court, basketball court, swimming pool, or outdoor kitchen.

Here are five tips to keep in mind as you plan your paradise estate:

Match your house to the project site.

First, make sure your plan and building site are compatible. A house on a small limits landscaping or may overstep building code limitations. Determine restrictions before you commit to location or agree on a blueprint. Plan room locations around sun exposure, as natural light keeps us psychologically happy and saves on electrical bills.

Specialize space / get organized.

Large scale home plans incorporate dream spaces, i.e., media rooms, great rooms, a home office, a spice kitchen, or a dirty kitchen. leaving the main kitchen for entertaining.

Invite your friends to paradise by using individual entertainment areas.

Design your entry large enough to welcome arriving guests. First impressions are lasting ones; visitors form their opinion immediately. Because guests often congregate in the kitchen, provide ample space to mingle without hindering food preparation. A good interior designer can help. Consider two islands or round counter designs instead of rectangle and choose from edges like ogee, bull nose, and a straight edge. With glamorous overhead lighting, islands can make an attractive focal point. Overnight guests always appreciate a private suite with a full attached bath. Many new building ideas include cabanas or casitas to congregrate around the pool. Media rooms are always an important part of a luxury home and furniture styles are evolving from theatre chairs to lounge type couches. In a sprawling home, it may make sense to have a second stairway to eliminate time consuming steps.

Architectural elements make a difference.

Details add personality, which is extremely important in defining any large home. Fine handcrafted architectural elements are details that distinguish the highest quality custom-designed built luxury homes and the want to bes. These elements lend richness and elegance, infusing a home with character and originality. Cabinetry, moldings, ceiling medallions, chair rails, staircases, mirrors, and mantels in an empty room speaks volumes of personal taste and style of homeowners. Depending on how you and your designer plan the scope of your project, large scale rooms can be cavernous or cozy. A good designer maintains scale, balance, rhythm, unity, and emphasis. Choose focal points in more than one room. Creative window designs properly scale a room. Certainly, having a properly balanced scale of furniture to a room can make or break it. By utilizing different linings such as blackout or interlining, custom drapes provide color and control lighting and temperature.

Create synergy between architecture and interior design.

Consult with experts to interpret your living needs and plan spaces intelligently,. Remember to enhance the environment and achieve comfort where your family and guests spend the most time. Look for inspiration in magazines and online for your projects, which helps when making decisions critical to the design success. Finally, visit model homes for ideas, remembering that those are done on the builder’s budget and will not replicate to a lived-in home. Your best bet is to hire a professional, which will save you time and money!

By Deloris Ludwig

After Hurricane Harvey brought floodwaters into Betty Wiley’s home, she knew it was time for a change. While the repaired kitchen was usable there was a plan in place down the road to upgrade to her dream home.

“I wanted to create a welcoming kitchen that was easy to function in, easy to organize and looked great,” she says. Why not now she thought. No time like the present

The original floorplan was a long galley kitchen that separated it from the living room. Betty as many people do, wanted an open concept that would not only expand the kitchen and connect the living room space, but transform the home by creating an inviting larger room where she could host friends and family in a much larger setting.

To make it happen, she contacted our company, which has been in business since 1987. We are a design-to-build renovation company for residential and commercial customers. Home Contracting Inc. works side-by-side with homeowners to remodel kitchens, bathrooms, install flooring and complete many other custom services. We have worked with businesses such as Pluckers Wing Bar and Hilton Hotels. Deloris Ludwig, who manages the company, has been doing design and renovation work for nearly 25 years.

“I’m always aware of making sure the job is done correctly and catching things as we go along,” Deloris says.

THE HOME CONTRACTING PROCESS

Home Contracting employs a process to every remodel project from conception to completion to be as stress-free as possible for their clients. For every project, it is best to start with an on-site personal consultation followed by 3D design ideas based on the client’s vision. Then it’s showroom or internet surfing to choose materials and finishes with the designers input. Next make sure and schedule each piece of the project so that the amount of disruption for the client is as short as possible.

“We never start demo until all the materials are received and available to install,” states Ludwig. “And we have the team to do the work.”

REMOVING A LOAD-BEARING WALL

To open up the kitchen, the separating wall needed to be removed, but it was a load-bearing wall as it many times is. Home Contracting’s experts had to plan not only the demolition but also to install a support beam running the length of the kitchen. This would make room for a sprawling island in Betty’s new open-concept kitchen. The process was involved, but the designer stays engaged throughout.

“I was nervous about the support beam,” Betty says. “But the company and the engineers she got made me feel at ease.”

During the process, they found a section of the ceiling attached to the wall that was dropped to hide gas, water and electrical lines. However, The team engineered a solution that solved the problem and created a butler’s nook that became a unique accent to the kitchen.

THE DESIGN SELECTIONS

We chose a subway tile backsplash, Brazilian-granite countertops, white all-wood cabinetry and engineered hardwood floors to match her living room. Betty also chose to install new recessed lighting, a light over the island and a custom-made stove vent.

They replaced baseboards and even rebricked a portion of the outside of her home that had to be altered during the renovation.

A NEW SPACE FOR ENTERTAINING

While Home Contracting shoots for a 10-day renovation on a room, Betty’s project took a bit longer because of the structural changes with the elimination of the support wall. Yet, within a few more weeks, Betty’s kitchen was just as she’d imagined—striking granite countertops, clean cabinetry and an open-concept layout with a timeless design.

“I just think it upgraded the whole look of the house on the first floor,” Betty says.

She believes that working with Home Contracting and getting Deloris’ help, you get your choice of style without feeling overwhelmed by handling a renovation project alone.

“I think these types of projects are good when you have the homeowner and designer working together and managing it as a team,” Deloris says.

Betty Wiley can’t wait to entertain in her newly designed kitchen.
